Exercise Motivation

Most people find it relatively easy to commit to starting an exercise or diet regime but then all too often, as other priorities begin to sap time anStart YOUR Changes Now!d energy, that exercise motivation disappears and they miss an occasional workout. Before you know it, the gym’s a distant memory and fast food’s back on the menu at lunch during work.

Losing exercise motivation is a very common complaint. People just can’t seem to stick to a weight loss routine or a diet because it either demands too much of their time, or it puts too many constraints on their lifestyle.

My own battles with the bulge centered around my passions for mountaineering and skiing. During the winter I’d be very fit, climbing ice routes in the mountains or skiing for fun in steep terrain in the Rockies.

In summer I’d be rock climbing or hiking in the hills and was always very fit. Toward the end of the winter and summer seasons I would stop going away as often and ended up taking little or no exercise for 12 week periods at a time. Over the years it became difficult to do the climbs I wanted to do because I was no longer naturally fit enough. By the time I was 30 I had perfected a lazy man’s way to seasonal fitness. I would train hard for 6 weeks and really get the blood pumping before theKeep Motivated! first climb. It worked great, for a while. When I turned 40 it was now no longer possible to get into the shape I wanted without sacrificing my devil may care attitude to eating and training. Worst still, I moved away from the mountains and suddenly found myself with no sports outlet and my exercise motivation fell through the floor. As I approached 50 I decided the 30 lbs I’d gained over the last decade had to go, but after several failed attempts I nearly gave up.

Why? What makes us give up on our weight goals? The answer’s true for why we give up any endeavor in our lives and if you want to succeed in your weight loss or exercise plan you’re going to need the same things as a successful entrepreneur, or that struggling band you love that just made it to the big time. You need Correct Mental Attitude. Without it your project will fail. CMA is so important because unless you provide a focus for any endeavor, our other commitments in life will slowly but surely take over again and the new activity will fall by the wayside. It’s pretty easy to get in the right frame of mind by envisioning the end result, so instead of thinking about the effort required to lose weight, think about the way you’ll look and feel in 2 or 3 weeks instead. Keep goals easy and achievable and weekly success will follow. That will snowball into rock solid exercise motivation for the next few weeks, enabling the process to continue to the next level.
